It comes as no surprise that one of the most commonly asked questions related to braces is “What candy can I eat with braces?” Despite what most people believe, it’s possible to enjoy sweets and take delight in eating with the key being, abide by the rules we’re laying out for you — and for the most part, these are the same rules your orthodontist laid out for you as well.

First of all, remember that the worst enemies of your teeth and braces are sticky candy, candy that takes a long time to eat and gummy candies. You should also remember that the more you expose your teeth to sugars and acids, the more time the bacteria get to feast and excrete acids. Sucking on lollipops or a chocolate bunny all day does far more harm than eating the same amount of candy all in one quick sitting. Therefore, you can minimize the bacteria by doing a few things when you eat candy. For instance, eating candy with plenty of water, swishing vigorously with water afterwards, not snacking all day and wait to brush your teeth at least 30 minutes after eating candy can help to minimize the acid in your mouth.
Nevertheless, there are sweets that you shouldn’t be afraid of eating this Easter! Those sweets include dark chocolate, as its properties have been proven to be better than fluoride at strengthening enamel; candy bar with nuts and homemade baked goods with monk fruit sweetener or coconut sugar!

By following these simple guidelines, you eliminate the odds of any delays in treatment. Who wants to have braces on for an extended period of time, anyway?
